Step through the entrance of this beautifully renovated old building and the bustle of the street fades away. The shop's own motto, "a mountain retreat in the city," says it all.
The real star here is tea itself. As a tea specialist, Tsuboichi serves matcha, hojicha, and sencha brewed to bring out their full aroma and depth, paired with seasonal Japanese sweets. The shaved ice (kakigori), piled high and finished with rich matcha, is a local favorite — especially in the warmer months. Right by Ayanocho Station — only a short walk from the guesthouse — you'll find Zelkova Shokudo, a warm, light-filled café named after the zelkova (keyaki) tree. After relocating to this neighborhood in spring 2025, the space became brighter and more open, with a calm, homey atmosphere perfect for slowing down.
The café is best known for its handmade lunch plate — a generous spread of seasonal home-style dishes that changes with what's fresh. Save room for dessert, too: the seasonal parfaits and cakes, paired with a glass of fresh fruit juice, make for a lovely afternoon break.
